You Are Cured

Summary - Doctor called and said "Your diet has cured you".  If I can do it so can you.

What a difference a year can make!  The last year has been a whirlwind of life changing events.  As some of you know I have been working on losing weight over the last year.  To this date I have lost 125 pounds. I've been eating things that go completely against what the standard American government approved diet recommends.  I've been eating a very low carb, moderate protein, and high fat diet.  So, if I have breakfast (never been much for a breakfast) I skip the toast and jelly, the cereal and milk and instead have the bacon and eggs.  For lunch I'll have a steak or chicken salad with some ranch dressing (none of that low fat stuff). For dinner, maybe a steak or  some fried chicken with bacon wrapped asparagus.  Yeah, much better than any of that other diet food you've ever tried.  I've cut out the sugars, grains, breads and highly processed foods.  I didn't buy any specific "weight loss" foods from any groups. No special diet pills. I didn't spend any time working out to lose the weight. But I do go to the gym now and work out just because I can now. And, I have started training for my first half marathon to be followed by marathon.

For those of you saying yeah, but you're going to kill yourself from the high cholesterol, all I  can say is my last cholesterol test says otherwise.  As a matter a fact, my doctor called and specifically said your diet has cured your high blood pressure and high cholesterol, not to mention the obesity.  My blood pressure is down to around 108/70. Last year it was around 150/90.  Below are my cholesterol test results.

Cholesterol Results
Feb-2015
Total Cholesterol  188
HDL 32
LDL Calculated 84
Triglycerides 362

July-2017
 Total cholesterol  193
 HDL 34
 LDL Calculated 112
 Triglycerides  236

July-2018
Total cholesterol  184
 HDL 52
 LDL Calculated 115
 Triglycerides  86

Ranges
Total cholesterol  <200
 HDL 40-59
 LDL Calculated <100
(Calculated LDL will show high if Triglycerides  are <100)
 Triglycerides  <130

I say all of this not to trumpet my results but, to say that if I can do it so can you.  All you have to do is start right now.  If you need help getting started, I would be more than happy to answer any questions.  Maybe, you need to make some positive changes in your life that do not revolve around weight loss, I would be more than happy to talk with you about that as well.  Fight for what you want now or fight against what you don't want later, it is your choice.

Tuesday -Lunch

We went out for lunch today and I ordered a Steak House Salad.  I would estimate it 3-4 cups salad, 6 oz. steak and ranch dressing.  Sometimes the problem with eating out is figuring out all the macros.  I estimate it to be around 600 -800 calories

Marathon Training - Week 2

Monday - Rain Today started week 2 of marathon training.   Today was a speed work day. On the schedule for today, was 3 sets of 1 mile runs at my 5K race pace. I did some stretches this morning before running which seemed to aggravate my ankle just a little.  Just for a little added challenge, it was raining with a blowing wind today.  It was a fairly warm 72F, so at least it wasn't a cold rain. I find that running in the rain helps your mental game by training your mind to deal with adversity.  It also helps you boost confidence. Suddenly when your the only one out running and you don't see any of the normal people you see out running you feel all the more like the toughest runner. For lunch, I had keto nachos made with pork rinds, hamburger, mozzarella cheese, and sour cream.  For dinner, we had pot roast and broccoli.

Marathon Training - Week Three

Sunday - Rest Day This week the milage jumps up.  On Monday and Wednesday I'll be running six miles and on Tuesday and Thursday five miles. Then on Saturday it will be 12 miles.  There may be some sweet equity involved this week. In any case today is a rest day.  So, this evening I will just be doing some stretching to get the muscles relaxed for this week. For lunch today I had steak and eggs and then afterwards are a few pecans.  If all goes as planned this should be my only meal for the day. Marathon training does require you to be extreme.  But it does requires daily consistency to slowly building up your endurance to achieve the extreme. Remember to Keep Calm and Keto On!
